University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine

Third Year Longitudinal Clerkship

The third year longitudinal clerkship is a semi-longitudinal alternative to the traditional third year clinical clerkships offered at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of medicine. The program is divided into two parts : six months of mini inpatient blocks and six months of ambulatory training.

The ambulatory training for the 2008-2009 academic year is taking place at five sites : Hilo, Maui, Pali Momi/Wahiawa, Waimanalo, and Leeward Oahu (Kaiser). During the ambulatory training months, the students attend a half day of clinic per week in each of the clinical disciplines, except for Family Medicine where they attend one full day per week. The inpatient blocks are all done on Oahu at standard clerkship sites, but the rotations are done in four week blocks, except for Medicine which is 6 weeks in length.
