Through the generous and ongoing support of the Pauley Foundation, the Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) has hosted the Edwin W. Pauley Summer Program in Marine Biology every summer since 1983. The program is a research and training platform that draws faculty and students from around the world. Each year, the Program is lead by a permanent member of the Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology faculty who chooses the research topic for the Program. As a result, the program reflects the very diverse subject areas encompassed by the HIMB faculty and the science conducted during these Programs contributes enormously to the knowledge base in marine science in Hawai‘i. Over the years, the Program has involved hundreds of students and significantly influenced the lives and career choices of these participants. This year, the focus of the Edwin W. Pauley Summer Program will be to retrospectively identify and synthesize the scientific contributions of the Program and share our findings with interested citizens, educators, and the scientific community members through web-based resources, multimedia, and a symposium.
Participation in the 2009 program will be by invitation only. Direct any enquiries to LorMona Meredith at lormona@hawaii.edu.
