To evaluate the spatial and temporal patterns of coral bleaching and disease in the Hawaiian archipelago, we’ve created a database and GIS visualization tool using Google Earth of reef monitoring program data from 1993-2008. This project directly fulfills Objective 1.10, “Develop a comprehensive database on coral reef health…integrating data from [local monitoring programs] on bleaching and disease” of Hawaii’s Climate Change and Marine Disease (CCMD) Local Action Strategy (LAS). The dataset contains 2020 records from the CRAMP, NOAA CRED, WHAP, DAR, MHI-RAMP, and individual researchers (G. Aeby and P. Jokiel). Data is organized by program, location, and year. The data can be explored through Google Earth (click here to download Google Earth). Each record contains information on the prevalence of different coral diseases (key is available in the text file “CCMD LAS GIS read me.txt”).
