Policies and Procedures

Library circulation

Access to and circulation of library materials is limited to staff of HIMB. Library journals are not available for circulation. Journals may be taken out of the library for photocopy purposes and must be promptly returned. Unless otherwise specified, library materials such as books and reference materials may be checked out for one month by filling out a card located in the pocket of the book or obtained from the Librarian. Materials should not be re-shelved but returned directly to the Librarian desk for processing.

Document delivery and interlibrary loan

These services are limited to students, interns, and staff of HIMB. The HIMB Library provides journal article document delivery to HIMB students, interns, staff. The library provides interlibrary loan of books to HIMB staff only

Services to the general public

The “general public” refers here to all persons who are NOT members of HIMB. At present, Library materials may not be checked out to the general public. Access to commercial databases licensed by the library via off-campus computers with Internet access is limited to HIMB staff, students and interns. The HIMB Library Home Page is available on the Internet but HIMB does not provide or sell to the general public accounts for dial-up access to HIMB network or library resources. HIMB does not take responsibility for the content or accuracy of internet sites accessed via the Library Home Page. Text and graphics contained in this web site are intended solely for non-commercial, educational use. Use or reproduction of any material herein for any commercial purpose is prohibited without the prior written consent of the Director of HIMB.

Services to students, faculty and staff other research facilities

HIMB seeks to work in the spirit of cooperation with the larger research community. Services to other research facilities will be on a case-by-case basis as determined by the librarian.

Library contributions

Books and limited runs of journals may be accepted for addition to the library collection. Please discuss these donations with the librarian before bringing materials in. The library cannot provide advice on the value of materials for tax purposes. Helpful information may be found on the IRS web page in IRS form 526.

Food, drink, and personal belongings

Your compliance with this policy will ensure that the library's collections, furniture, and computer equipment are protected from accidental, permanent or expensive damage. Please help protect your library. Food and drink may not be consumed inside the library. The only exception to this is food or drink consumed by the postdoctoral students in their carrels. Patrons should remove personal items and working materials when they leave the library. No animals of any kind (except seeing-eye dogs and animals assisting the physically challenged) are allowed inside the library.
