Maxwell Tom

Since joining Hawai‘i Community College in 2008, Maxwell K. K. Tom has demonstrated positive leadership as the senior groundskeeper. His high capacity for work coupled with his can-do attitude is infectious and is something for all to emulate. Tom’s problem solving abilities are excellent and his perseverance and commitment to do things right the first time is second to none.

One of the most efficient and self-motivated workers in the department, Tom does impeccable work and always completes tasks in less time than it takes other groundskeepers.

He has conservatively saved the college more than $200,000 by taking on challenges such as cleaning out the ditch drains, implementing a rain gutter cleaning program and starting a campus compost pile.

Tom is praised by faculty, staff, students and visitors for his constant efforts to beautify and improve the campus grounds. His exemplary performance and dedication to his work has influenced others and brought great credit to himself, the department, Hawai‘i Community College and the University of Hawai‘i System.
