UH Hilo Chancellor’s Awards
Chancellor’s Award Winner
Keith Edwards
Associate Professor of Computer Science Keith Edwards received the Koichi and Taniyo Taniguchi Award for Excellence and Innovation.
He obtained a grant that brought more than $80,000 worth of computer equipment and software to the computer science department, which he chairs.
The equipment was used in Edwards’ software engineering class, where students developed applications for the Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes.
The new system, which is being used during summer 2009 by students and trainees from developing nations, will allow volcanologists to collect more accurate data, share those findings in the field and transmit the data to a database with fewer errors.
The Chancellor’s Awards honor outstanding service by UH Hilo employees.
