Judy Toba, a culinary arts student at Maui Community College, is an exemplary individual who has made significant contributions through her scholarship and volunteer efforts. Toba is dedicated to career advancement and participates in educational opportunities designed to enrich her understanding of the culinary arts and strengthen her supervisory and managerial skills.

As a student team leader, Toba has gained the respect and admiration of the faculty and her peers. She has been a driving force in many extra-curricular program events and industry-related benefits. She has spent numerous hours volunteering at food and wine events on Maui and O‘ahu.

Her ability to take on new responsibilities, interact with faculty, develop new niche chocolate products and create written processes needed for wholesome food product development exhibit at a high level of commitment to excellence.

Toba has been conscientious, reliable and committed to new learning experiences and emerging technologies. In all instances, her performance exceeded expectations and program benchmarks. Toba represents the highest standards of the Maui Culinary Academy as a modest and positive role model of student success.

The Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Vocational Education rewards outstanding achievement and significant contribution to vocational and technical education by a community college faculty member or student.

The award was established by family members to honor the namesakes’ role in development of the food industry in Hawai‘i.
