Robert Bidigare
Oceanography

A professor of oceanography at Manoa’s Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology, Robert Bidigare’s research concerns bio-optics, pigments, the foundation of the marine food web and the effects of UVB radiation.

His work in biological oceanography has been recognized both nationally and internationally and he has won best paper awards from the Geochemical Society and the Japanese Phycological Society. Bidigare has more than 170 refereed publications, and his publications have been cited more than 3,000 times.

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research is awarded by the Board of Regents in recognition of scholarly contributions that expand the boundaries of knowledge and enrich the lives of students and the community. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching.
