Ho-min Sohn

A professor with Manoa’s Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, Ho-min Sohn is a world renowned scholar of the Korean language.
His book, The Korean Language, is hailed as the best and most accessible book on Korean ever translated into English. He established MA and PhD programs in Korean language at Manoa, the first in the world outside Korea, making it possible to train a new generation of scholars.
A colleague noted, "Sohn’s work has brought much deserved recognition to his native tongue and has made the university a mecca for Korean language research."
The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research is awarded by the Board of Regents in recognition of scholarly contributions that expand the boundaries of knowledge and enrich the lives of students and the community. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching.
