Affectionately known as "uncle" to all his students, Honolulu Community College Associate Professor of Diesel Mechanics Technology Paul Onomura has touched many lives. He restructured and revitalized the diesel mechanics program to accommodate flexible intake of students. His experience in the industry enabled him to design and create work stations for the program despite budget constraints.

Outside of the classroom, Onomura freely shares his knowledge with colleagues and the community through workshops and meetings.

"Onomura’s contributions have had a far reaching impact on all whom he comes into contact with,’ writes a colleague.

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the Board of Regents as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research.
