West Oahu Chancellor’s Award Winner
Information Technology Specialist James Amihara has served as the backbone of the information technology department at UH West Oahu since joining the campus in 1994. His comprehensive understanding of a vast array of technological tools and his willingness to try alternate problem-solving methods make him an asset to the university.
“James is far more than the leader of our information technology team,” says Gene Awakuni, UH West Oahu chancellor. “He always looks for the most efficient, sustainable and inexpensive ways to improve our campus network and infrastructure." He mentors many staff members on advanced software.
Amihara’s high level of integrity and unwavering dedication are demonstrated in his excellent attention to detail and outstanding attendance. He develops effective troubleshooting tactics for all machines and updates the West Oahu website and other vital computer applications efficiently and always with a positive attitude. The entire West Oahu ohana appreciates his pleasant demeanor and professionalism.
He participates in team-building activities, including the annual UH United Way softball tournament and is volunteer videographer at all UH West Oahu commencement ceremonies.
“As we prepare the transition to our new campus, it is good to know that James will be there to ensure our network communications system doesn’t skip a beat,” says Awakuni.
