Judging at HSSEF

The Science Fair program in Hawaii is the primary activity of the Hawai‘i Academy of Science (HAS). It serves over 7,000 students statewide in both public and private schools with about 500 students participating in the Hawai‘i State Science and Engineering Fair (HSSEF) typically held each April. Selected students from the Hawai‘i Science Fair program represent Hawai‘i at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the premier student science competition in the world. The Academy has been proud to serve as the host and organizer of the HSSEF since 1958 and continues to explore ways to improve the program and encourage more participation. We strongly believe that participation in the Science Fair develops critical thinking skills, helps students become engaged and interested in science and encourages many students to explore careers in science, engineering, technology and math.

The execution of the Science Fair program relies on the dedication of an army of volunteers and our judges at the HSSEF are a crucial factor in the success of the event. In addition to determining those projects that will represent Hawai‘i at the Intel ISEF, the interaction of the students with judges stimulates their passion for science, recognizes the value of their efforts and develops their confidence to continue in scientific endeavors. We encourage you to contribute your time and expertise to our efforts by registering to be a judge for the Science Fair!
