Chief Technologist
Kaveh Kardan joined the Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawaii in October of 2003, where he is advising on the program's technological aspects and teaching software engineering and gaming courses.
Kaveh was Manager of Software Research and Development at Square USA in Honolulu for five years, during which time he and his team developed software for the computer graphics feature film "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", as well as software and tools for future-generation video games.
Prior to moving to Honolulu, Kaveh was working in Montreal, Canada, as a freelance software, media, and game developer. While in Montreal, he also worked as software engineer at Taarna Systems, developing cloth and hair animation software, and at Softimage, where he developed the first animation package in 1988.
Kaveh's career began at Neo-Visuals, in Toronto, where for a number of years he developed 3D rendering, modeling, and animation software. Kaveh graduated with a BSc in mathematics from MIT in 1985.
His interests include computer graphics and animation, artificial intelligence, software enginering and programming languages, computer-assisted storytelling and cinematics, games, movies, science-fiction, ultimate frisbee, and soccer.
