SPRING 07 INTERNSHIPS ON LOST!
ACM has arranged with the producers of LOST for several internships during
Spring Semester on the hit ABC series. Academic credit is available (ACM
495) for those able to commit to 150 working hours over the course of the
semester (app 10 hours a week, preferably one very full day a week at the
Diamond Head Studio).
Interested? Contact Asst. Prof. Joel Moffett, at moffett@hawaii.edu or
956-3353, who will coordinate the project. Majors and intended majors are,
as always, given priority. (Another in a very long string of very good
reasons to major - or double major - with ACM.)
There is some flexibility in days & hours of work. The imperative is
commitment. It is a rare experience to be part of a professional, working
production - particularly one that is so globally recognized. ACM thanks
Executive Producer Jean Higgins for making this opportunity available to our
students.

POETRY CLASHES CONTINUE WITH "EPIC"
Kevin Inouye, ACM alumnus, invites us all to the world premiere screening of
EPIC on Dec. 30 at 8pm in Crawford 115. EPIC is a 50-minute short film
follow-up to the infamous TALE OF HAIKU JONES, an ACM runaway hit at the
2004 HIFF and 2005 San Francisco and Los Angeles Asian American Film
Festivals. Poetry and comedy are at the core of all of Kevin's films. EPIC
brings back Epic Poem Eric to the screen, and his blood feud with Slam Poet
Steve. HAIKU JONES will also screen, along with WAKE, a nice bit of visual
poetry in itself.
REMINDER #1: WOMEN'S FILMMAKER INITIATIVE
The ACM's Woman's Filmmaker Initiative is an exciting new screenwriting

underrepresented ethnic groups (i.e. Native Hawaiian, Filipino, Melanesian,
Pacific Islander, Puerto Rican, Samoan, Fijian, Micronesian, Asian, Asian
American, African, African American, Hispanic). Winners will be awarded a
$1,250 grant to students to produce their winning screenplays during the
Spring 07 semester.
HOW TO APPLY: Submit the following to the ACM office, Crawford 210, by noon
on Friday, January 12, 2007:

WHO'S ELIGIBLE:-Female students of color enrolled in ACM courses.
-You must be a continuing student - you'll be enrolling full-time for Spring
2007.
-You must have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.75.
NOTE: Winning students must agree to provide the Academy for Creative Media
a production journal outlining pre-production, shooting and post production
schedules, as well as any rough, director's and/or final cuts of the
production, which shall be copyrighted as an ACM Production.
The competition is supported by a grant from the Office of Student Equity,
Excellence and Diversity. For more information, contact Asst. Prof. Joel
Moffett at 956-3353, or moffett@hawaii.edu.
REMINDER #2: SPECIAL TV WRITING WORKSHOP FOR ACM CREDIT
ACM Students can earn 1 credit of ACM 390 (Workshops) next semester by
attending a 2-day Pacific New Media Workshop: Writing for Television: Get
Started and Go, April 28 & 29 (9 am-4 pm, Saturday and Sunday). Described by
instructor Marie Jacquemetton: For everyone interested in writing for
television, this two day intensive workshop gives an overview of writing on
a television staff and provides students with an in-depth examination of
writing an episode for a one hour or half-hour television series. Writers
participate in a pitch workshop and receive specific feedback on their ideas
the first day. Day two is a comprehensive discussion and illustration of
the story break process. The goal is for attendees to leave with a solid
pitch for a viable TV series spec episode and clear direction in how to
structure, outline and write the teleplay. For information, see
PNM's website. The workshop is included in the Spring 07
Extension schedule on MyUH. The CRN is 3699.
REMINDER #3: FOR SPRING 07 ACM COURSES
1. Students wishing to enroll in ACM 310 - Cinematic Narrative Production -
must complete a workshop on camera and editing fundamentals. The all-day
workshop will be offered Jan. 6 - the Saturday before the start of classes -
