Hollywood comes calling at ACM:
LOOKING FOR THE NEXT SUPERSTAR
Don't forget - Friday's (11/30) ACM's Master Class (ACM 385) will be the
scene for auditions for a lead actor in Legendary Pictures feature film
based on the popular 1970's television series KUNG FU. ACM Director Chris
Lee will oversee an Open Call to cast the lead character, Caine. All ACM
students are welcome to attend, watch and participate in this
professional-level experience. The fun starts about 3 pm for setup. The
tryouts get underway at 4 pm.
DIRECTOR DAVID LYNCH IN MONDAY UH TELECONFERENCE
David Lynch, director and creator of such classics as ERASERHEAD, BLUE
VELVET, TWIN PEAKS and MULHOLLAND DRIVE will conduct a live iChat on
Creativity, Film Making, and Meditation Tuesday (12/4), 1:30-3:00 pm in
Campus Center Rooms 307/308. There will be complimentary pupu and beverages.
Lynch will discuss how Transcendental Meditation influences his work and
life. The campus TM Club and ASUH are co-sponsoring.
CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP FOR ACM 310
The Pacific New Media Certification Workshop required of all students
enrolling in ACM 310 will be held January 12. See

MEDIA CENTER EQUIPMENT RETURN DUE DATE DEC. 14
Laptops, hard drives and other equipment checked out from the ACM Media
Center must be returned no later than December 14. After that, a daily fine
will be imposed.

* ACM student Jay Hanamura has put out a call for crew to help with two
short films he now has in production through mid-December. Contact him at

* Sounding Joy Music Therapy, a nonprofit agency, is seeking help in
editing/producing a PSA or informational video. Contact Mary Luther at
292-1237 or 377-5173.
$1250 SCREENWRITING AWARD FOR GLBT FILMMAKER INITIATIVE
Jan. 14 is the deadline to apply for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, &
Transgender Filmmaker Initiative. Winning screenplays earn a $1250 award to
produce a narrative or documentary that focuses on issues involving gay,
lesbian, bisexual and or transgender subject matter. You do not have to be
gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender to win this award, but you do need to
submit by the Jan. 14 deadline:
* A signed letter of introduction, which includes a statement of intent, if
chosen as a winner, to produce this film in the spring of 2008 as an ACM 499
Directed Study.
* A completed screenplay.
* A one-paragraph synopsis of the story.
* A preliminary budget indicating all costs of production and
post-production

FACULTY KUDOS
* Prof. Wimal Dissanayake of ACM has been appointed to the advisory
editorial board of the soon to be launched, London-based film journal South
Asian Film and Media.
* ACM Director Chris Lee returned from Bangkok where he addressed a
government-industry group on digital media and special effects in films such
as SUPERMAN RETURNS.
* ACM Chairman Tom Brislin returned from Japan where he lectured at a United
Nations University seminar on Globalization and Cultural Diversity.
