Aloha students, friends and supporters of the Academy for Creative Media at
the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
ORIENTATION FOR ALL MAJORS AND INTENDED MAJORS FRIDAY...
A reminder that we all join together – faculty, majors & intended majors on
Friday (Sept. 11) at 2:30 pm in the Architecture Auditorium for our first
ACM Orientation program. We’ll talk about our new BA program, and our moving
out of Interdisciplinary Studies and into the College of Arts and
Humanities. We’ll tell you about the first in what will become an annual ACM
Awards Ceremony for student films, and about our other award competitions,
film screenings and other activities for the year. You’ll meet the faculty
and staff, and watch some great ACM films. Good talk. Good friends. Good
fun. See you there!
… AND TIME FOR MAJORS TO MOVE OVER!
If you’re a major under Interdisciplinary Studies, the clock is ticking for
you to switch to the newly approved ACM major for the ACM BA. It requires
filling out one simple form, found at <www.hawaii.edu/acm>. Click where it
says MAJORS under “Announcements.” The form explains both the background for
the change and the change process. Instead of a degree in Interdisciplinary
Studies, you will be completing a degree in Creative Media. There will be no
additional requirements if you make the switch now. If you haven’t filled
out the form yet, do it now. You can bring it with you to the Orientation
meeting Friday, or hand it in to our main office in Crawford 210.
Newly accepted majors, and those who have not completed their IS Academic
Plan don’t have to fill out the switch form. Continue to work with your ACM
advisor on your Academic Plan. A new template to help you formulate your
academic plan can be found on the ACM website. Click on “Application and
Other Academic Forms” from the menu on the left, and then “ACM Academic
Planning/Advising Form.”
NUMBER, PLEASE
This semester’s enrollment for 20 courses plus internships is 373. ACM major
count now stands at 125 and growing. You’re in good company!
HIFF INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE!
There’s no better way to participate in the film festival world and to meet
filmmakers and key industry people than an internship with the Hawai‘i
International Film Festival, which runs from October 15-25 this year, but
can put you to work now. And you can get ACM 495 credit, too! HIFF is
seeking interns in Operations, Volunteer Coordination, Outreach &
Communications, Special Events & Seminars, and Travel & Hospitality. Send an
email to <intern@hiff.org> with your interest area (hint: tell them
“anything and everything!”), and they’ll get you started. If you’d like to
earn ACM credit, see your advisor.
HIFF also appreciates volunteers. If you’ve got the time, email
<volunteer@hiff.org>.
ANIMATORS CLUB
A group of lively ACM Animation students have formed an official RIO
(Registered Independent Organization) - the Animators Club. They’ll
introduce new ACM animation & game design track students to the program,
watch movies together, have some fun drawing excursions, share tips and
tricks, and bond like SuperGlue. All students in ACM 215/216 and above are
welcome to join. Those not yet in the program can submit a portfolio of 10
drawings. For more information, contact Nak Yong Choi at
<nakyong@hawaii.edu> or <knocknak@gmail.com>.
