Meet the UH Board of Regents
Regent
Carl A. Carlson Jr.
Founder of Huehue Ventures, a real estate consulting and agricultural property management firm, Carl A. Carlson Jr. has more than 35 years of experience in real estate, ranching and agriculture in Hawaii. A former regent, Carlson returned to the board in 2008.
He is a member manager of Kohala Aina Partners and Kohala Preserve Conservation Trust and a member of Hualalai Investor and for 10 years served as a trustee of the Parker Ranch Foundation Trust, a charitable trust supporting health care, education and charity in Waimea.
Carlson previously served as owner and president of Kona Livestock and Land Management, Ltd., and general manager of Huehue Ranch. He was a director for Hawaii Meat Company, Kahua Beef Sales, Hue Hue Corp. and Island Commodities, Corp. He also served as president and board member of Parker Ranch and Waimea Wastewater, Inc.
A member of the State of Hawaii Board of Agriculture, he also serves on the board of the Hawaii Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, chairs the Board of Advisors for Kukio Community Fund and served as vice-president of Kohala Center. He chaired the Hawaii County Board of Ethics and Hawaii Leeward Planning Conference and served on the board of the Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce. He has been a longtime member of UH’s Na Koa Booster Club.
Carlson is a full member of the Urban Land Institute and serves on its Recreational Development Council. He is a member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council.
Born in Wailuku, raised in Waikapu and a graduate of Baldwin High School, he obtained a BS from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. West Hawaii residents since 1969, he and his wife Christine have four children and two grandchildren. Hobbies include paddling, snow skiing, hiking, traveling, running, golf, horseback riding and other outdoor activities.
