Student
Work-Study Allowance Program
Work Study
is for veterans who are receiving federal education benefits
and want to supplement their income further by working, while
receiving an education.
| ELIGIBILITY: |
To
be eligible for the work study allowance, a student must
be enrolled at a rate of 3/4 time or greater (see
below for credit load conversion) under the Montgomery G.I.
Bill Active Duty (Chapter 30), Selected Reserve
(Chapter 1606), Post-Vietnam Era Veteran's Educational
Assistance Program (Chapter 32), Spouses' and Dependents'
Program (Chapter 35), or the Vocational Rehabilitation
Program (Chapter 31). |
| WAGE
RATE: |
The
wage rate will be the greater of either the Federal or
State minimum wage rate. The good part of work study
is that the wages earned are free of federal and state
taxes. A work study student can work at a maximum of
25 hours per week. The amount able to work during
a given semester is decided by the work study coordinator
at the VA. Payment will be 50 hours of wages paid in advance
and payments thereafter will be made in increments of 50
hours. |
| TYPE
OF WORK: |
Services
performed under the VA work study program must be VA related
in nature, unless stipulated otherwise by the work study
supervisor. |
