Professional
Development and Strategic Planning Workshops at the International Center
for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) and the American University
of Beirut (AUB)
February 2005
was highlighted by the completion of 7 (seven) professional development
and strategic planning workshops in which nearly 130 faculty members from
our two partner universities and invited representatives of other agricultural
institutions in northern Iraq were provided with state-of-the-science and
state-of-the-art training in agricultural higher education concepts and
advances by a large delegation of University of Hawaii faculty and counterparts
at ICARDA and the American University of Beirut. Altogether, over 250 Iraqi
faculty and representatives of major agricultural institutions in northern
Iraq have now participated in AHEAD’s professional development and
strategic planning workshops that began in August 2004 at Amman, Jordan.
Carrying out these workshops was a daunting task due to their sheer magnitude
and political events in the region. Nevertheless, their successful completion
was unprecedented in Iraqi higher educational history!
