:: November 18th: Hike to Makapuu Lighthouse and the Tidal Pools!

[Saturday, 18 November, 1pm at the parking lot for the Lighthouse]

Have you ever hiked to Makapuu Lighthouse? Have you ever wondered where you would end up if you took a right at the whale display and started hiking down the mountain?

The ALA-SC Social Committee can answer that last question for you. It will lead you to beautiful tide pools filled with tropical fish. There is nothing quite like swimming in your own private aquarium. Add to that a beautiful blue sky and the ocean stretching out before you and you will feel like you are in paradise.

What: The first portion of the hike is paved and is approximately one mile long (one way). The hike down to the tide-pools is a steep, rocky descent. Even if you decide that the hike to the tide pools is not for you please join us for the paved portion filled with beautiful views up to the lighthouse.

Where: Meet at the parking lot for Makapuu Lighthouse. This is on the right-hand side heading Waimanalo-bound of the Kalanianaole Highway (Hwy 72) between Hawaii Kai and Waimanalo (before Sea Life Park).

Date/Time: Saturday November 18th, 1pm

Weather & Rides: Please email ekk(AT)hawaii(DOT)edu with your phone number so that we can contact you in case the hike is canceled due to weather. Please also indicate if you will need a ride.

Cost: FREE

What to Bring / Wear:
* Swimsuit - there is no place to change below so it is strongly suggested that you wear this for the hike
* Sunscreen
* Snorkel / goggles - no fins needed
* Plenty to drink
* A snack
* Reef shoes / Tevas for walking on the lava rock
* Comfortable shoes to hike in
* A camera - the views are amazing but please be aware of where you place your belongings. Ocean spray can reach your belongings even when you think they are out of reach.

The tide pools truly are one of Oahu's gems. We look forward to sharing this adventure with you.
