Executive Committee Meeting
August 26, 2004
Attendees: Christian DeLay, Junie Hayashi, Uta Hussong, Wendy Ikemoto, Mona Kwon, Lillian Nicolich, Jenn Ogg, Loraine Oribio, Lori Ann Saeki, Carole Suzui, Suzanne Uratani, Andrew Wertheimer, and Leslie Wood
Opening:
Call to Order: 4:05 PM
Proceedings:
Pending adjustments, the Executive Committee approved the July 18 minutes.
Jenn Ogg reported the treasury balance as $713.81.
Membership Update
There are four new members to ALA-SC, bring the membership total to 37 members.
Fundraising
The bake sale will be held on September 2. Although ALA-SC will be coordinating the September bake sale, it shall always be advertised as joint with SLA/ASIST.
Loraine Oribio reported that she would be meeting with Pizza Hut soon to coordinate the purchase of 50 Literacy Fund Cards.
Mentoring Program
Junie Hayashi noted that there are 13 new students who expressed interest in the program. With 25 returning students volunteering, there are more than enough matches. At the end of the semester, we will survey all participants of the program for feedback and suggestions.
Fall Brown Bags
§ Ron Chapman, on museum librarianship on 9/21/04.
§ J. Hayashi reported that Jim Rumford, local children’s book author/illustrator, committed for sometime in October, depending on his schedule.
Fall Socials
L. Oribio reported that the Mixer is scheduled for 9/9/04, 3:00- 7:30 at the Ba Le on campus. ALA-SC will contribute for pupus. Advertisements will go out this week.
The Beach Party is scheduled for Sunday, 9/19/04 at 2:00 PM. The location has changed to Magic Island at the Ala Moana Beach Park. The beach party will be a potluck, with ALA-SC contributing sodas and paper goods. A $3.00 donation will be suggested for non-ALA-SC members, including guests.
Web Site
Christian DeLay reported that the shared Calendar of Events is a work in progress. In addition, Zhan Hunt will be the ALA-SC contact for the shared calendar. Please direct all details to her.
Library Tours
Leslie Wood noted that the library tours have been successfully running. Each tour runs about 30-40 minutes, and are scheduled through the education coordinator. During the week of 8/30/04, there will be a tour everyday at 4:00 PM.
HLA Silent Auction
The meeting for the HLA Silent Auction is scheduled for 9/1/04. Lori Ann Saeki will send out an email to the ALA-SC members inviting people to the meeting and to participate in this short-term project. One agenda item is to think of a theme.
New Business
The committee was asked to think of ways to provide participation opportunities for neighbor island members.
Next Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for 9/23/04 at 4:00 PM. The ALA-SC general membership meeting will be held on 9/30/04 at 4:00 PM.
