Executive Board and Committee Chairs Meeting

November 30, 2005

Sinclair Library, Staff Lounge, 4:00-5:00 pm

Attendees: Christine Cipolla, Margo Hanson, Lillian Nicolich, Loraine Oribio, Janel Quirante, Andrew Wertheimer, Marta Wiggins, Carrie Young

Proceedings

The minutes from the Executive Board and Committee Chairs meeting on October 24, 2005 are pending approval by the Executive Officers. Lillian distributed Agenda, and Event Log for July-Dec, 2005.

Brief Reports

Activities review (Lillian)

• Lillian distributed an Event Log listing all ALA-SC sponsored events for Fall 2005.
• She attributed the large number of events to the hard work of the Social and Professional Committees and stated the events helped to address the lack of LIS space post-Flood.

T-shirt Fundraising Update (Loraine)

• Loraine provided a current inventory of T-shirts: 2XL grey (9), 2XL white (10), L (7), M (6), S (5)

Treasurer’s Report (Marta)

• ALA-SC current account balance is $539.22. We are expecting about $400 in payments before the semester end.
• Marta announced a fundraising opportunity: She will donate a $50 finder’s fee if an ALA-SC member can provide a homestay for an international language student.

Website Update (Lillian)

• Christine will be taking over website maintenance starting Spring 2006.

Blotter (Lillian)

• There will be one more issue this semester focusing on ALA-SC activities during Fall 2005.

PNC Conference Volunteers Service Hours (Janel)

• ALA-SC members contributed a total if 72 volunteer hours to the conference.
• Janel will write a final Service Project report before semester end.

Discussion Items (Brainstorming & Planning)

Chapter of the Year Submission

• Lillian and Loraine are working on the application. ALA sent a copy of our runner-up submission, which was lost in the flood.

Membership & Committees

• New Chairs are needed for Professional and Fundraising Committees. Lillian and Loraine will step down as Chairs Spring 2006.

Professional Committee

• Possible Brown Bag series focusing on orals topics: intellectual freedom, digital librarianship, etc.
• Other Brown Bag topics: reference service, art librarianship, archives
• Job Fair

Social Committee

• Possible basketball game and food/drink activity early in the semester.

Fundraising Projects

• Possible projects: Ebay auction, pizza literacy cards, Zippy’s chili, shave ice.

Service Project

• Possible projects: Hamilton Library tours, public library literacy programs

New Student Orientation

• Loraine and Janel will represent ALA-SC at Spring 2006 orientation.

Next Meeting:

Tentatively scheduled for Tuesday Jan. 10, 5pm at Volcano Joe’s
