This excitement is reflected in the record number of new students enrolling in the LIS program each semester. On behalf of the executive board of the University of Hawai`i at Manoa American Library Association Student Chapter, I would like to welcome you to the new ALA-SC Web site, our own personal bridge between technology and our efforts to enhance your LIS experience through education and service. The ALA-SC seeks to provide forums and materials that expose students to contemporary and emerging topics in efforts to join academic philosophy with practical expertise. Through planning and sponsoring brownbags, events, social networking and service opportunities, we hope to offer you a breadth of unique educational insights. We encourage all students to become involved with ALA-SC as this not only develops and reflects sought-after leadership skills, but supports the very foundations of community-based teamwork essential to building and maintaining successful organizations. It is only with your help and active participation that we can effectively embody ALAs mission to provide leadership for the development, promotion and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all. Thank you for visiting our new ALA-SC Web site and please come back soon to keep up to date with events and opportunities you can participate in with ALA-SC. Lori Ann Saeki
