In this section there are several interactive keys you can use to identify your ant collections from Hawai`i. As there are over 45 species of ants in Hawai`i, and new ones still being discovered it is challenging to identify all of them. AntWatch is working on an interactive system to facilitate this. In the meantime, we can only offer you two identification keys, each with the goal of testing the hypothesis that you have collected the little fire ant, Wasmannia auropunctata. Using these keys, you can positively identify this ant, or learn that you do NOT have this ant in your collection. You can choose from the key based on live ant behavior, or based on characteristics you can view under the microscope.
