Step 2. What anti-virus software package do you need?

Since you have a Macintosh desktop or portable with Mac OS X, you will want to download Virex 7.7 for Macintosh. The system requirements are as follows:

Step 3. Download the Virex anti-virus software. (Just do this once)

At this point, you will need to

  1. Go to the main Download Page.
  2. Review the licensing agreement, select I Agree, then click on Submit.
  3. Read the directions, fill in the information, and click either Redownload or Upgrade. Press Submit.
  4. Type your UH Username and Password in the appropriate boxes, then click on Login.
  5. Depending on your web browser, you might be prompted to Cancel or Download this file. Click on Download. Virex will now be downloaded to your desktop. The installer will be in a folder called Virex 7.7 files.
  6. Come back to this page to continue the process at Step 4. You may also wish to print this page for reference.

Step 4. Read and follow the installation instructions.

Before you download the actual anti-virus software, please review the installation instructions.

Step 5. Download and install the latest Definition File

After you restart your computer, if your Macintosh has an Internet connection, Virex should automatically launch and update itself to the latest virus definitions.

In the future, Virex 7.7 will automatically check for updates whenever your Macintosh has an Internet connection, and will launch itself, download, and install the update automatically if one is available. New Virex definitions are released approximately once a week; sometimes more often, sometimes less often.

You can also update Virex manually.

  1. Launch Virex (Hard drive->Applications->Virex)
  2. Click on the eUpdate button near the bottom of the window
  3. Click on Start

Congratulations!

Your computer now should be protected against viruses.
