Step 2. What anti-virus software package do you need?

Since you have a PC using Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista, Windows 2000 server, Windows server 2003, or Windows server 2008 you will want to download McAfee VirusScan Enterprise.

Patches for VirusScan Enterprise may be downloaded from the main Download Page (see step 4).

Step 3. Read and understand the installation instructions.

 Before you download the actual anti-virus software, please review the user guide.

Step 4. Download the VirusScan anti-virus software

At this point, you will need to

  1. Go to the main Download Page
  2. Enter all required information, and select the software you have chosen above.
  3. Click on the "Submit" button
  4. Save the file into an empty folder, e.g., create a folder called "Virusscan" on your desktop and save the file in there.

The software is 25MB. If you have a dial-up connection and have trouble downloading large files you can pickup the ITS CD from Keller 213 on the Manoa campus. All other campus users should contact their campus IT support center.

Step 5. Install the VirusScan anti-virus software.

 Make sure you run the file from a empty folder. Locate and double-click on the appropriate application (.EXE) file you downloaded in Step 4 to begin the installation process for your VirusScan software. Be sure to carefully follow all the installation instructions you viewed in Step 3.

Step 6. Run AutoUpdate

 Run VirusScan's AutoUpdate feature to upgrade the software with any new available updates.

Congratulations!

Your computer now should have maximum protection against viruses. Reminder: please be sure to use the AutoUpdate feature in your software to have the latest in protection.
