Anti-virus Software Download (cont'd)

Step 2. What anti-virus software package do you need?

 Since you have a PC using Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Pro or Windows Vista, you will want to download McAfee VirusScan Plus.

Step 3. Read and understand the installation instructions.

 Before you download the actual anti-virus software, please review the installation instructions.

WARNING: if you do not uninstall any existing anti-virus software before installing VirusScan Plus, you will encounter serious problems that may require editing your registry or reinstalling Windows.

Step 4. Download the VirusScan anti-virus software

At this point, you will need to

  1. Go to the main Download Page
  2. Enter all required information, and select the software you have chosen above.
  3. Click on the "Submit" button
  4. Read the page that follows your submission and click on the appropriate link(s) to download the software. Be sure to make a note of which folder your downloaded files have been saved.

The software is 27MB. If you have a dial-up connection and have trouble downloading large files you can pickup the ITS CD from Keller 213 on the Manoa campus. All other campus users should contact their campus IT support center.

Step 5. Install the VirusScan anti-virus software.

 Locate and double-click on the appropriate application (.EXE) file you downloaded in Step 4 to begin the installation process for your VirusScan software. Be sure to carefully follow all the installation instructions you viewed in Step 3.

Step 6. Run AutoUpdate

 Run VirusScan's AutoUpdate feature to upgrade the software with any new available updates.

Congratulations!

Your computer now should have maximum protection against viruses. Reminder: please be sure to use the AutoUpdate feature in your software to have the latest in protection.
