After four years active duty service in the United States Navy in 1996, CPT Box, then Petty Officer 3rd Class, redirected her military service career to the Army Reserves. In an effort to maintain the technical training gained in the Navy she was re-enlisted and assigned to the Army Reserve Signal Corps as 31L. While serving with the 804th Signal Company at Fort Shafter Flats, she applied for an academic ROTC scholarship. As a SMP Cadet enrolled as a full time student, CPT Box worked full time, attended ROTC and participated in monthly battle assemblies with the 804th Signal Company under the 9th Regional Readiness Command. She graduated with honors from Hawaii Pacific University in 2004 earning her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Human Resource Management.
Upon commissioning, CPT Box attended Signal Officer Basic Course at Fort Gordon, Georgia. In 2004, she returned to the 9th Readiness Regional Command and was assigned in the G6 as the Telecommunications Officer. As a First Lieutenant, she was transferred to the Western Information Operations Center (WIOC) DET-3 hosted by the Regional Computer Emergency Response Team (R-CERT) on Fort Shafter and served as a Systems Operator. While assigned at the WIOC she was mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Deputy S6 with the 657th Area Support Group, 9th RRC.
After returning from deployment in August 2007, CPT Box was contracted as a Information Assurance Administrator with Symantec Corporation’s DoD Federal Consulting Services in support of the Warrior Training Alliance at Fort Polk, Louisiana. CPT Box continued Reserve Battle Assemblies and is pending her new Reserve Duty Assignment at the WIOC, Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
Her military awards include; the Army Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (w/ ”M” device), Army Service Ribbon and the Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon.
