CPT Jesus Cruz serves as the University of Hawaii Army ROTC Assistant Professor of Military Science and Enrollment Officer - he has held this position since October 15, 2008. He is extremely knowledgeable in the program's eligibility criteria, benefits, and requirements - if you have a question about ROTC you need to give him a call immediately.

CPT Cruz is pursuing a PhD in Political Science. He has a Master's degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor's degree in English (Literature) from the University of Guam (GO TRITONS!). He has completed the Army's Intermediate Level Education (2009), Captain's Career Course (2007), and Officer Basic Course (2003). CPT Cruz has also completed the Pre-Command course, Physical Security course, Company Trainer's course, USAR Training Management course, Combatives Level I and II, Explosive Hazards course, HAZMAT course, Anti-Terrorism Level I and II, and many other military courses.

CPT Cruz's previous assignment was Company Commander of the 739th Engineer Company - a combat engineer unit (multi-role bridge company). Prior to that, he served as the 439th Engineer Battalion assistant S3, HHD Commander, and 916th Engineer Detachment (well-drilling) commander. He deployed (2004-2005) to Baghdad, Iraq with the 411th Engineer Battalion as a horizontal and vertical construction platoon leader. He perfomed numerous construction and combat missions. CPT Cruz also conducted many civil-military operations with the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Taji, Iraq. His primary mission focused on using his previous civilian experience (as a secondary education teacher) to aid in the improvement of Iraq's education system within his Area of Operations.

CPT Cruz is married to Vianna and has three daughters, Da'jah, Taylor and Rylie. He has taken Karate, Boxing, and Jui Jitsu classes for recreational purposes, and loves to train. In December 2009, he will run his first (and according to him his last) marathon (Honolulu Marathon). CPT Cruz also loves to go to the beach.
