MAJ Todd Hamel is a native of Laconia, NH. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in May 1998 receiving a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery.
After completing the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course in January 1999, MAJ Hamel was assigned as Battery Executive Officer for Charlie Battery, 1st BN, 79th FA (OSUT), Fort Sill, OK. He was later assigned to Charlie Battery, 2d BN, 4th FA (MLRS), III Corps Artillery, Fort Sill, OK in JAN 2000 and served as a Firing Platoon Leader, Battery Operations Officer/Fire Direction Officer, and Battalion Adjutant. In August 2001, MAJ Hamel assumed command of the 231st Target Acquisition Detachment (AN/TPQ-37), III Corps Artillery. Upon completion of command, he attended the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course and CAS3 and graduated in MAR 2003. In APR 2003, MAJ Hamel was assigned to Camp Casey, Korea and served as commander for Alpha Battery, 1st BN, 15th FA (Paladin). After relinquishing command, MAJ Hamel was assigned to the 196th IN BDE at Fort Shafter, HI and served as the BDE S4. In SEP 2007, MAJ Hamel was assigned to Fort Riley, KS and trained and deployed in support of OIF 07-09 as a Fire and Effects Advisor for Battalion Border Transition Team 4312, FOB Caldwell, Diyala Province, Iraq.
MAJ Hamel’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (1). MAJ Hamel has also been awarded the Parachutist Badge.
MAJ Hamel is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Airborne School and the Joint Firepower Course. He is married to CPT Jade Hamel of San Diego, CA and they have two boys, DJ and Nathan.
