Stanton’s works as a poet have, however, special importance for him, an emphasis exemplified by his publication of over 400 poems in journals and anthologies, including appearances in such prestigious magazines as Poetry, Harvard Review, New Letters, Antioch Review, Poetry East, and New York Quarterly. In connection with his new book, Poets House in New York City asked him to present Starting with Art, a poetry workshop offering perspectives on how responses to artworks can lead to the creation of poems. While touring his book in New York City this summer, he gave a reading from it at the Cell Theater for the Irish American Artists & Writers Salon, and a group of four actors workshopped Things Seen as a sequence of dramatic readings at The Directors Company.
