ARTSPEAK / LANGUAGES OF CREATIVITY
October 5 – October 31, 2014
UHM Commons Gallery

ARTSPEAK aims to stimulate discussion among Pacific Island artists about the different languages, vocabulary and concepts they use to articulate contemporary creative practice. Transformed into a communication hub for live, recorded and interactive elements, the gallery includes a video installation with flat-screen monitors and wifi Internet connection, live and recorded conversations from selected participants in different locations, alongside original videographic artwork and documentaries. Chairs and mats in the space provide visitors opportunities for discussions, interviews, and practical workshops—functioning as a studio to record conversations and commentary to be broadcast through the Internet and to participants across the Pacific. This exhibition is curated by Moana Nepia, Assistant Professor, UHM Center for Pacific Islands Studies.
