Things to consider:
Art 307R/308B-R/308C-R are not courses to substitute for existing photography courses. They are to be used ONLY for students who have specific projects covering content outside of existing courses. And that she/he wants to explore this material within a formal academic setting, for academic credits. Both the university and the Photography Program seriously frown upon liberally giving out credits for loosely structured projects. [note: Art 307R/308B-R/308C-R credits can count toward media-specialization or art elective requirements]
Art 307R/308B-R/308C-R are INDEPENDENT studies courses and are not for everybody. They demand a high layer of self-motivation and vigorous self-discipline. Most students are more productive in classes that professors design for them.
A question like "What should I do?" is not an appropriate questions to ask your professor on the onset. We can provide feedback AFTER you make your proposal but YOU must determine the focus of your project. A good guideline is 150 hours worth of work for 3-credits.
Your proposal need NOT be limited to the techniques covered by the numerical designation of Art 307R/308B-R/308C-R. (i.e. Art 308B need not be in color)
The production of a body of work equivalent to the final project of a standard photo course is NOT sufficient. In a standard photography course, the final project represents only 50% of the workload in courses. Furthermore, you must seriously consider whether the material you have designed for this course is educational and challenging, AND what the expectations and criteria of evaluation are. In effect, you are both the professor and the student. Our role is basically advisory, to insure that the criteria are fair and appropriate, to use our experience to fine-tune the focus and parameter of your project, and to provide feedback along the way. We will not police your progress or keep you on track.
That is exclusively your responsibility.
You are expected to attend specific class sessions that that will be determined by you and your professor as well as all Intersections visiting artist talks and all photography exhibitions in town. You will also be expected to conduct academic research that will support your proposed project. This can take the form of a research paper and/or class presentation.
Supplies reimbursement amounts will be determined by the scope of your project.
