MARY BABCOCK
Assistant Professor

Mary Babcock is an artist whose work bridges 2 diverse paradigms:   art as beauty and art as social criticism.  She is Chair of the Fibers Program, and specializes in fibers, mixed media installation, performance, and interdiscplinary collaboration, with particular interests in environmental and peace studies. Recent works apply the metaphor of mending as it relates to cultural transformation. 

Babcock received her MFA from the University of Arizona, BFA from University of Oregon, Ph. D. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and B.A in Psychology from Cornell University.  Her work has been exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally.   She received the Silver Award in Fibers in The Breath of Nature:  The 2nd Cheongju International Craft Competition and Biennale (Cheongju Arts Center, Cheongju-city Korea, 2001 as well as Special Citation in Mixed Media in Art in Craft; Craft in Art:  The 3rd Cheongju International Craft Competition and Biennale (Cheongju Arts Center, Cheongju-city Korea, 2003).  Other recent exhibitions include Scythia 2004 (Kherson, Ukraine),The  22nd North American Sculpture Exhibition (Golden, CO - Awarded HR Meininger Award)and The Fifth Annual International Festival of Tapestry and Fiber Art (Beauvais, France, 2002).
