The graduate art students of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Dept. of Art and Art History, present their annual exhibition of new work. The exhibition includes the graduate students’ most recent works in painting, ceramics, fiber, glass, photography, design, printmaking, sculpture, and electronic media.

Prints: The Commodity of Exchange
March 16 - April 11, 2008

Features contemporary international prints collected from 1993-1998 through the printmakers’ tradition of portfolio exchanges. Five outstanding exchange portfolios that include more than 150 prints were selected for the exhibition. The portfolios include: Colorprint U.S.A., Drawn to Stone, Epicenter, Hard Ground Printmakers, and The Levee.

BFA Exhibition
April 20 - May 16, 2008

Art students who will be graduating with a BFA degree from the Department of Art & Art History, University of Hawaii at Manoa present their annual art exhibition. The energy and enthusiasm of the soon-to-be-alumni always makes this exhibition exciting.

Writing with Thread
September 21 - October 31, 2008

Southwest China, a region of topographic, climatic and human diversity, is home to 31 of China's 56 ethnic groups. With over 500 of the finest and historically significant objects on loan from Taiwan-based collector, Huang Ying-feng, Writing with Thread celebrates the diverse and splendidly woven and embroidered handicrafts of these peoples.

Writing with Thread will provide an arresting visual feast of exquisite and rare costumes produced by 16 ethnic groups and nearly 100 subgroups. Included are the Miao, Yi, Dong, Tujia, Shui, Li, Zhuang, Dai, Buyi, Yao, Wa, and Zang. The exhibition will explore the meanings associated with the production and use of ethnic clothing.

Gallery hours:  M - F  10:30 - 4:00, Sun.  12:00 - 4:00. Closed holidays and Saturdays. Free admission. Donations are appreciated.
