Robbie Barber was born in Williamston, North Carolina, 1964, and has a BFA from East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, 1987, and a MFA from the University of Arizona, Tucson, 1991. In 2004, Barber was one of twelve artists to participate in the Keen Foundry Invitational Iron Casting Symposium in Houston and designed an award for the Theater Department at Baylor University where he is an associate professor.

Opsis, with its paint-worn patina, was inspired by cast iron piggy banks. Made originally from wood, this work demonstrates my interest in the iron casting industry and pays homage to the lost art of wood patternmaking that was unique to this industry.
