Richard Jolley was born in 1952 in Wichita, Kansas. He received a BFA from George Peabody College, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, in 1974, and continued his studies at Penland School, North Carolina. He received a Tennessee Individual Artist Grant, 1988, and has done artist residencies at Galeria Angela Hollings, Hameln, Germany, 1986; Israeli Cultural Artist Exchange, 1998; and the University of Sydney, Australia, 1999.

I express the many dualities of nature and materials by employing a figurative/narrative mode to document our times and environment.
