Born in Rijswijk, The Netherlands in 1926, Toon Wegner attended The Royal Academy of Art, Rotterdam from 1942 to 1947. He is the recipient of a Royal Grant for Painting, 1956; Jacob Maris Awards, 1959 and 1961; scholarships to Finland, 1961, and Hungary, 1988; and the Cultural Award of the Province of Drenthe, 1995.
