John Wilson was born in 1925 in Muncie, Indiana. He received a BA, 1950, and a MFA, 1953, from Indiana University, Bloomington. He is a professor emeritus at the University of Colorado at Boulder where in 1958 he received a faculty fellowship to study lost wax casting in Italy.

My work deals with the power of fundamentalist religious thinking and its negative impact on the misfortunate of the world. Pope Benedict XVI's refusal to allow the use of condoms in Africa despite the thousands of deaths from AIDS compelled me to create this sculpture.
