Born in 1958 in Telgte, Germany, Josef Zutelgte attended Westfälische Wilhelms University, Münster, 1978-1983, and the Academy of Fine Arts, Münster, 1984-1986. The National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts awarded Zutelgte artist residencies in 1997, 1998, and 1999 and he received grants from the Art Development Committee in 1998 and 1999. He teaches at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
