Kate Budd was born in 1969 in Nairobi, Kenya and graduated with honors, BA, 1990, from Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland, and received a MFA, 1995, from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She is an associate professor at Myers School of Art, University of Akron and received an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Ohio Arts Council in 2003.

While I carve, I listen to the material and my hands, and the idea shifts from the personal to the archetypal. Wax is sensuous and tactile, translucent and mutable. The scale references dolls or netsuke and the “cute” size allows for the exploration of more unsettling imagery.
