The 2008 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition culminates a multi-year curriculum of academic study within the Department of Art & Art History. This exhibition presents the very finest art and design work created during the final stages of the BFA candidate's coursework. Including in this show are examples of the rich variety of media, art experiences and achievements offered here at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Areas of specialization include animation, ceramics, fiber, glass, graphic design, photography, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. |

Writing with Thread Southwest China, a region of topographic, climatic and human diversity, is home to 31 of China's 56 ethnic groups. With over 500 of the finest and historically significant objects on loan from Taiwan-based collector, Huang Ying-feng, Writing with Thread celebrates the diverse and splendidly woven and embroidered handicrafts of these peoples. Writing with Thread will provide an arresting visual feast of exquisite and rare costumes produced by 16 ethnic groups and nearly 100 subgroups. Included are the Miao, Yi, Dong, Tujia, Shui, Li, Zhuang, Dai, Buyi, Yao, Wa, and Zang. The exhibition will explore the meanings associated with the production and use of ethnic clothing. |

The 10th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition Initial exhibition of the 10th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition. The exhibition is intended to serve as a vehicle of communication among sculptors in many parts of the world. Central to the exhibition's concept is the challenge of creating works on a small scale which maintain integrity and control of sculptural elements. By using the format of a shoebox, artists show how they address the challenge of scale. |

Call to Artists
The 10th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition is intended to serve as a vehicle of communication among sculptors in many parts of the world. Central to the exhibition’s concept is the challenge of creating works on a small scale which maintain integrity and control of sculptural elements. By using the format of a shoebox, artists show how they address the challenge of scale.

Department of Art and Art History
The Department of Art and Art History offers concentrations in both studio and art history and grants a BA with art history focus or studio focus, a BFA in studio arts, an MFA in studio arts and an MA in art history of Asia and/or Pacific arts.
