Yung-Hsiang Wang has performed extensively in the US, Europe, and Asia. At age 13 he won First Prize at Taiwan’s National Violin Competition, and subsequently studied as a full-scholarship recipient at the Curtis Institute (B.M., violin), Juilliard School (M.M., orchestral conducting, as a Bruno Walter Memorial Fellow), and Stanford University (Ph.D., musicology and humanities).
An active chamber musician, Wang is a founding member of Trio Solari, which is on the artist roster of Performance Management International. His solo repertoire ranges from early music to contemporary music. Currently he performs as a concertmaster with the Grammy-nominated early music group Ars Lyrica, and has served in the same capacity at Mexico’s Festival de Musica Barroca de San Miguel Allende.
As an advocate of new music, he was Violinist-in-Residence of the esteemed Guild of Composers in New York City, and now appears regularly with Houston’s award-winning contemporary group Musiqa.
At present, he is making the first-ever complete recording of Johann Jakob Walther’s monumental Hortulus Chelicus from 1688 (4 discs, forthcoming), and he can be heard on recording labels such as Albany Records, Sono Luminus, and others. Wang was on faculty at the University of Houston Moores School of Music (Visiting Associate Professor), Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music, Texas Music Festival, and Thy Chamber Music Festival (Denmark).
