The Department of Art and Art History hosted Art Mania, an art fair for the Honolulu community that showcased student and faculty artists. There were student and faculty artwork for sale, live demonstrations, T-shirts, live bands, and a fashion show. Ceramics, fiber, glass, media arts, painting, drawing, performance, photography, printmaking, sculpture and video demonstrations highlighted the arts at UH Manoa.
Religion professor emeritus George Tanabe finds that Japanese Buddhism in
Hawai`i has suffered an identity crisis and may have discovered the
origins of the Hawaiian shaka sign.
Dr. William Chapman, director of the UH Graduate Certificate Program in Historic Preservation, will be the co-leader of a project to map, to photograph and to archive important architecture and botanical denisons on the UH Manoa campus. This unique project is funded by a $100,000 grantfrom the Getty Foundation.
