The Art Gallery
The University of Hawaii Art Gallery presents a varied exhibition program which plays a significant role in providing information about the visual arts in both an historical and contemporary context. One of the finest temporary exhibition facilities in the nation, the gallery consists of approximately 4,200 square feet of versatile space with an installation system of modular and movable walls that allows the utmost in flexibility of presentation.
John F. Kennedy Theatre
Kennedy Theatre is a beautiful 630-seat facility that was built to accommodate both Asian and Western staging techniques. Opened in 1963, it is believed to be the first public building to be named after the late president. The building was designed by the renowned architect I. M. Pei. The theatre has a wide 52' stage, a burnished teak interior, and some unique features such as a ‘hanamich’ (runway) and upper and lower sidestages, often used for Kabuki and other Asian and Western Theatre performances. The Kennedy Theatre facility also includes the Ernst Lab Theatre, a separate ‘blackbox’ theatre for smaller productions and events.
Orvis Auditorium
The Mae Zenke Orvis Auditorium was built in 1962. It is generally regarded as the premier recital hall in the state. With its seating capacity of 400 and excellent acoustics, it is an ideal venue for solo recitals and chamber music.
