Through Lenses: Images of Timor Leste
East Timor Exhibit
Through December 2003 Asia Collection Fourth Floor, Hamilton
Library
Yati Barnard, Southeast Asia Librarian, has created a beautiful exhibit
on East Timor, the world's newest nation. The exhibit consists of
photographs and Yati's observations of the country during her visit there
last summer.
Yati writes:
In June 2003, I visited Timor Leste (East Timor) for the
first time. Travelers throughout history have produced images of their
journeys, which to some extent have shaped the way people understand or
perceive the places that they represent in their images. Unlike earlier
travelers who equipped themselves with paper, canvas, pencils, brushes,
charcoals and pellets, I equipped myself with 3.2 megapixel digital
camera, and these are some of the results.
East Timor is more than
what you see in these images. These are a very small representation of
the nations landscapes, seascapes, public monuments and buildings. Do
not let your imagination about East Timor be limited by these pictures.
Imagine more and hope that you, too, will one day visit this new nation
with your own camera. But, also keep in mind, image is not everything & Obrigăda!
