Frank Hawley's Plaque

Dr. Robert van Gulik, Frank Hawley's friend, wrote these characters and created Hawley's personal plaque.  It was hung in his den for a long time. This image was provided by Dr. Manabu Yokoyama, Professor of History at the Notre Dame Seishin University, Okayama, Japan. Dr. Gulik also wrote an obituary for Frank Hawley, published in Monumenta Nipponica, Vol. 16, No. 3/4. (Oct., 1960 - Jan., 1961), pp. 434-447.

An article: "In Memoriam. Frank Hawley (1906-1961)"
By R. H. van Gulik. Monumenta Nipponica, Vol. 16, No. 3/4. (Oct., 1960 - Jan., 1961), pp. 434-447.
