Spy Sweeper 6.1 supports 64-bit Windows Vista SP1, as well as 32-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. It doesn't support Windows 2000.* The ITS site-licensed version has anti-spyware only, no anti-virus.
Note: the installation procedure has changed. You must enter the 20-character keycode from the ITS software download site (http://www.hawaii.edu/software/), even if an existing version is already installed on your computer.
Webroot Spy Sweeper anti-spyware software is available free of charge to UH-employed faculty/staff for use on UH-owned computers, including computers in computer labs on campuses and UH-owned laptops. Upon termination of employment at UH, all copies of Webroot SpySweeper obtained through the UH site license must be uninstalled.
Spy Sweeper may only be installed on a UH-owned/decaled computer. It must be downloaded by a UH-employed faculty/staff at a UH campus location. UH-employed faculty/staff may download and install Spy Sweeper on behalf of a UH affiliate who will use Spy Sweeper on a UH-owned/decaled computer. The UH-employed faculty/staff shall be held responsible for reporting proper software license counts.
For new installations and to receive this version upgrade, Spy Sweeper must be downloaded from http://www.hawaii.edu/software/. Anti-spyware definition updates only (not program/version upgrades) are available through Spy Sweeper's "Check for Updates" mechanism.
To obtain the software, you need a valid UH username and password AND you MUST download the software from a UH location (UH faculty/staff CANNOT download Spy Sweeper from home).
Conflict with McAfee Anti-Virus
If you have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5 installed, you should disable the email attachment shield in Spy Sweeper. For details, see http://www.hawaii.edu/askus/810
Online Backup
The online backup feature for the ITS site-licensed version of Spy Sweeper 6.1 does NOT work. This does NOT affect the anti-spyware functionality of Spy Sweeper 6.1.
Symptoms include:
- Backup button on Home page is grayed out.
- Backup command on the Spy Sweeper system tray pop up menu is grayed out.
- You may have a status warning "no backup account detected". (This is NORMAL for the ITS site-licensed version.)
- Clicking the Activate Account button in the Backup section on the Home page brings up the UH update webpage (this is NORMAL for the ITS site-licensed version).
*ITS no longer supports Windows 2000. Please purchase a new computer with Windows Vista or upgrade to Windows XP.
