Differences between Google@UH Sync and IMAP for Android:

Functionally, Google@UH Sync and IMAP differ in both the app used to check email on your device, and the services that can be synced.  When using Google@UH Sync, mail is checked via the Gmail app.  When using IMAP, mail is checked via the Email app.  Google@UH Sync allows for multiple services to be synced to your Android device, such as your Google@UH email, calendar, and contacts, while IMAP allows only for email syncing.

How to sync Google@UH services for Android:

1. From your Home screen, open your App Drawer, then tap on the Settings app.
2. Scroll down to Accounts (Android 3.0+) or Accounts & Sync (Android 2.1-2.3).
3. Tap on Add Account.
4. Select Google as the type of account.
5. Select Existing when prompted.
6. Type in your full email address and password in the appropriate fields.  Press the right arrow when finished.
7. Select which services you would like to sync with your device, such as Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts (note, certain services may not be available for use with a Google@UH account).  Press the right arrow when finished.
8. Allow a few moments for the data to sync

How to check Google@UH email via IMAP for Android:

Note: Make sure you have enabled IMAP in Google@UH Gmail before you continue, instructions can be found here.

1. From your Home screen, open your App Drawer, then tap on the Email app.
2. Enter your email address and password when prompted.  Tap Next.
3. When asked what type of account, tap on IMAP.
4. At the next page:
   • Ensure that the Username field contains your entire email address.
   • Tap on the IMAP server field and change it to imap.gmail.com.
   • Tap on the Port field and change it to 993.
   • Tap on the Security type field and change it to SSL/TLS.
   • Tap Next.
5. At the next page:
   • Ensure that the SMTP server field reads smtp.gmail.com.
   • Tap on the Port field and change it to 465.
   • Tap on the Security type field and change it to SSL/TLS.
   • Ensure that Require sign-in is checked, and that your username and password are entered below.
   • Tap Next.
6. Check the options you prefer to configure your notifications and syncing.  Tap Next when finished.
7. Name your account (optional) and change your display name, if desired.  Tap Next when finished.

How to configure Google@UH Sync for iOS:

1. Open the Settings application on your device's home screen.
2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
3. Press Add Account....
4. Select Microsoft Exchange.
5. In the Email field, enter your full email address.  You may see an "Unable to verify certificate" warning when you proceed to the next step.
6. Leave the Domain field blank.
7. Enter your full Google@UH email address as the Username (e.g., username@hawaii.edu).
8. Enter your UH password as the Password.
9. Tap Next at the top of your screen.
   • Choose Cancel if the Unable to Verify Certificate dialog appears.
10. When the new Server field appears, enter m.google.com.
11. Press Next at the top of your screen again.
12. Select the Google@UH services (Mail, Calendar, and Contacts) you want to sync. To receive and respond to meeting requests on your device, both Mail and Calendar need to be turned on, and New events needs to be enabled in your Google Calendar settings.
    • If you would like to keep your existing contacts on your device select the Keep on my iPhone (or iPad or iPod touch) option when prompted. This will also allow you to keep syncing with your computer via iTunes. If you choose to keep existing contacts, you will sync the contents of the My Contacts group.

How to configure Google@UH email via IMAP for iOS:

5. Enter your account information, being sure to use your full Google@UH email address
