Step 2. What anti-virus software package do you need?
For UH faculty, staff and students
Since you have a PC using Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2003 server, Windows Server 2008 or Windows server 2008 Release 2 you will want to download McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 with Patch 1.
Install patches after the main VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 application has been installed. Download Patch 2 only on the main download page on the Patches line. Follow patch only installation instructions.
Step 3. Read and understand the installation instructions.
Before you download the actual anti-virus software, please review the installation instructions. If VSE 8.8 is already installed, go to the main download page and click on the VSE 8.8 Patch 2 link; you don't need to download VSE 8.8 again. Follow patch only installation instructions.
Step 4. Download the VirusScan anti-virus software
At this point, you will need to
- Go to the main Download Page
- Enter all required information, and select the software you have chosen above.
- Click on the "Submit" button
- Save the file into an empty folder, e.g., create a folder called "Virusscan" on your desktop and save the file in there.
Go to the main Download Page (McAfee VirusScan Enterprise Edition)
Step 5. Install the VirusScan anti-virus software.
Make sure you run the file from a empty folder. Locate and double-click on the appropriate application (.EXE) file you downloaded in Step 4 to begin the installation process for your VirusScan software. Be sure to carefully follow all the installation instructions you viewed in Step 3.
Step 6. Run AutoUpdate
Run VirusScan's AutoUpdate feature to update the software with any new available DAT updates.
Your computer should now be protected against viruses and malware. Reminder: please be sure to use the AutoUpdate feature in your software to have the latest in protection.
Please refer to the document, Getting Started with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8i, for more information about this software.
